HARNESSING INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY (ICT) FOR ENTREPRENEURSHIP ADVANCEMENT IN NIGERIA
Abstract
This paper examined the place of information and communication technology (ICT) as a veritable instrument in the advancement of entrepreneurship in a developing country like Nigeria. Information and communication technology (ICT) has been defined as the diverse set of technological tools and resources used to transmit store, create, share or exchange information. The advancement of ICT in the modern technology of ICT devices consist of computers, internet, mobile phones, close circuit, television (CCTV) surveillance camera, social media platforms network analysis, biometric surveillance, data, satellite, imagery and IP devices including the satellites. Meanwhile, the practice of entrepreneurship encapsulates hand on experience in risk taking, learning from mistake made in the course of a business venture of possible ways of improvement for future endeavor. This action involves figuring out how to achieve entrepreneurial objectives through business ventures enterprise. This paper therefore assessed the imperatives of information and communication technology (ICT) as catalysts for achievement of entrepreneurship towards development in various sectors in Nigeria. Using the discourse analysis method, the paper examined the areas through which the adaptation and deployment of ICT can lead to the advancement of entrepreneurship for development in Nigeria. The study identified some of the potentials, prospects and the challenges of functional and technologically inclined education leading up to entrepreneurship advancement for the sustenance of socio-economic development in Nigeria.
