EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE AND EMPLOYEES’ PRODUCTIVITY OF DEPOSIT MONEY BANKS IN MAKURDI METROPOLIS OF BENUE STATE, NIGERIA

Abstract


This study examined the effect of Emotional Intelligence on Employees’ Productivity of deposit money banks in Makurdi metropolis of Benue state, Nigeria. The study specifically examined the effect of self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship management on employees’ productivity in Benue state. The study focused on three chosen deposit money banks in Makurdi metropolis of Benue State (United Bank for Africa (UBA), First Bank of Nig. Plc and Zenith bank Plc.). A survey design method was used for the study based on stratified random sampling and structured questionnaire directly administered by the researchers on a sample size of 218 respondents. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistical tools such as tables and simple percentages. In addition, multiple regressions were used for further analysis and test of hypotheses. The findings from this study indicated that there is significant relationship between different dimensions of Emotional Intelligence and employees’ productivity of deposit money banks in Benue State. The study revealed that emotional intelligence in the form of self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship management all have significant relationship with employees’ productivity in Benue State. Based on research findings, the study concluded that emotional intelligence through self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship management has improved the productivity of employees in Benue State and it recommended among others that deposit money banks should train their employees on self-management intelligence in order to enhance their productivity.
