SURVEY ON BANK CHARGES AND THE USAGE OF E-BANKING CHANNELS IN KADUNA METROPOLIS

Abstract


The aim of this paper is to investigate the impact of electronic transaction charges on usage of e-banking channels and financial inclusion. The multi-stage sampling technique was used for this study. Using purposive simple random sampling technique, and Yamane formula, 1597 bank customers were chosen for the study.  Data were collected using questionnaire and analyze using frequency distribution, percentages and chi-square. The study found out that bank customers residing in Kaduna metropolis use e-banking channels to access E-banking services which most are  aware  attract charges that 90% consider  high, multiple and unexplained  , and  the charges also inform customers’ decisions to use specific electronic transaction channels. The   study also discovers that there is financial inclusion in Kaduna metropolis. The chi-square result indicates that bank charges impacts significantly on the usage of e-banking channels. The study therefore   recommendations Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN should specify charges for each e-channel of transaction and ensure strict compliance through supervision and punishment of erring banks.
